I am Malala By Malala Yousafzai - Reviewed by Aishani Mishra - (Autobiography fest)

I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai is a wonderful and inspiring book that has been a milestone for all that who know her story.

Malala is from a small and beautiful village called Swat Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan. Swat Valley has been dominated by the Taliban since many years and people who are under their mercy and cruelness. Malala is an ambitious girl who wants to study well and become a doctor and most of all free her Swat Valley from the control of Taliban. It was then she decided to become an activist from a doctor when the Taliban ordered the people to shut down all the schools that have girls studying in them or else they would blow up their houses along with people and schools. People were savagely abused and murdered. It was then Malala decided that she had to do something and when she raised her voice the Taliban silenced her by shooting her along with two other girls while she was returning from school. I think this was the point which made her even strong to fight and protest against these Taliban and regain her right to study and go to school. She was taken to Birmingham for treatment and slowly slowly her condition improved. She regained her consciousness after a month and when she did, she just wanted to go back home and finish her exams which were going on the time she was shot. Soon, the whole world got to know about her story and people started giving her get well soon cards and good wishes and some even sent teddy bears. But Malala, didn’t give interest in any of these all she wanted was books and a notebook for side notes. It was a really hard time for her, and she was fighting for her own life, but she didn’t even waste a minute and studied whatever materials she had.

Her determination is commendable and inspiring but most of all what I felt bad for her that she had to leave her home and live in a new environment and make new friends totally different from her culture.

After two weeks of her consciousness her family arrives, her father mother and two brothers, Atal and Kushal. After Malala fully recovered leaving behind just scars on the back of the head, her family decided to stay there forever. But Malala has still hopes that one day she would visit her little home and meet her friends. Malala even got a scholarship in a good school and continued her studies in Birmingham.

For me Malala is an inspiration she was so talented but it was religion and fear that had stopped her from fulfilling her dream. But a person with passion can do anything because Malala had the willpower to complete her mission that is her dream.

I loved the autobiography I think that this is the best autobiography I ever read. I would recommend this book to whoever loves the art of autobiography writing.
