How would it feel to live in such a beautiful place like the Swiss Alps with an old, ill-tempered grandfather? Same was the case with Heidi, a five-year-old girl who was forced to live with her old Alm-uncle [her grandfather] because her aunt Dete had to go to work in another city. Alm-uncle, according to the villagers, is a strict person who never likes to talk to others. But soon Heidi discovers that it is not true – and she can also play in the flowers that grow on the mountain all day. But then she is taken away by her aunt to live in a city with an injured girl. Heidi misses her mountain home and therefore goes around the large mansion at night in depression. She is sent back to the Alps where she recovers and her injured friend comes too to visit Heidi. The injured girl then transforms from being a sick 12-year-old to being a plump and rosy teen. The story ends with a thank you to Heidi and Alm-uncle from the girl’s father and grandmother for curing their child. Sure, the story does deviate somewhat from what is written in the back of the book, the story is very good for 10-year olds if reading the abridged text and 12-year olds if reading the unabridged one [which contained very long lines].
Johanna Spyri, at whose time children were treated cruelly by their parents, took the children’s side and said that they see the world differently from what adults saw it as, which was true and wrote this book on this idea.

BOOK RATING - 9.5/10.
