Imagine a hot, sticky summer afternoon when you have nothing to do but roam around the house looking for something interesting. Well, my advice would be to go up to your book shelf , pick up this classic and start reading it and I can assure you hours of entertainment. "Three men in a boat( to say nothing of the dog)" is an extremely amusing classic by English humorist Jerome Klapka Jerome( also known as Jerome K. Jerome). This book starts with three men, George ,Harris and the author who feel seedy in their rooms in London and get quite nervous about it ( well, even you would be if you are convinced that you have every disease in the world except for housemaid's knee). Montmorency , the foxterrier reluctantly accompanies them. So they decided to take a break from their daily lives and get some fresh air and exercise and planned a boat trip up the River Thames. The interesting thing about this book is that nothing goes wrong in the boat trip but again nothing goes exactly right. Jerome K. Jerome , through his writing has made us see the humorous side of, to say, almost everything ! He brings in instances from his past and also personal thoughts about various things, on reading which even the most grumpy and sober people can't help but laugh. The hilarious Uncle Podger and the instance of Harris as a guide at the maze of Hampton court are some of my all time favourite. But enough spoilers now. Read the entire book to find out the magic of Jerome K. Jerome. And for those who are not yet convinced about this book, I must assure you that this book is completely a must - read and that you would miss a great deal by not reading it. As for me, I give it a 5-star rating.
