Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan - Reviewed by Rajita Jana

Every book is based on a "what-if" question. For example the what if question of the Harry Potter series is "what if witches and wizards existed?", the what if question of the various Stilton series is "what if instead of being humans, people were mice?". Now these are mind blowing but then again 'picture abhi bhi baki hai mere dost!'. The what if question of the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan is "what if Greek gods still existed"! Now this is what I call epic!

'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' is the first of a series of 5 books. Percy Jackson is a 12 year old who is ADHD and dyslexic and has also been kicked out of 6 schools in 6 years. Strange things happen to him all the time. But the worst is yet to come. Percy can swear that his ex-algebra teacher turned into a leathery hag sort of creature and tried to kill him in a field trip but nobody can even remember the teacher! But that was before he lost his mom(he rescued her later in the book), reached Camp Half-blood, found out his best friend Grover is a satyr and his ex-latin teacher is actually the great centaur Chiron(teacher of Hercules, Odysseus and other famous greek heroes), and found out that he is the son of the Sea God, Poseidon (one of the Big 3). That is a lot of headache! Now as it turns out Camp Half-blood is the safest place on earth for kids like him, namely demigods (half mortal, half god). Unluckily as soon as Percy started to think that he has finally found a place where he belonged, trouble found him again. Percy is accused to steal Zeus's Master Bolt! Percy along with his friends Grover and Annabeth Chase(daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom) are sent for a quest to find Zeus's Master Bolt and return it to him before the summer solstice.

SPOILER ALERT!! The rest is for you to read and find out. But one thing I can promise is that you are gonna love it! This book is obviously a must-read and in my opinion is much more better than Harry Potter.
